Freeware Game of the Month: League of Legends

In addition to my normal game of the month (which you can see below) I have also decided to this month give a little review of a nice freeware game I was introduced to called League of Legends.

First off, for those of you who don't know, freeware is software that is 100% free for you do download or use (for example Adobe Flash Player is rather free is it not?) as such some people make freeware games, and some of them can be rather brilliant.

League of Legends is a game based off of the online Warcraft 3 game Defense of the Ancients (DotA).  While it is very much like the online variant (with it being a lanned team game) it is also different in added components, such as mastery trees (much like your talent trees in World of Warcraft) and Rune books (which allow you to give permanent bonuses to your heroes).

In League of Legends you play as a summoner who calls powerful champions to fight for them against opponents to prove yourself as the most powerful of all.  I didn't really count but currently there are probably thirty or more Champions in the game, each of them all unique in their own ways (there's a ninja and a pirate guys =O).

In the game their is downloadable content which you can get by paying for, or alternatively whenever you play a game in League of Legends you get IP Points which can be used at the in-game store instead of using your actual money.  So the more games you play, the more in game cash you get, and the more content you can buy.

The game only has a certain number of champions that can be used for free each week, and each week new champions are chosen, so that all players can get a feel for all the champions in the game.  In addition to this, despite what you might be used to for freeware games the graphics for this game are quite amazing.  I myself can't put the resolution on the highest settings because my video card screams at me....

The game is a great way to pass the free time you have and I recommend it to anyone who is looking for a free way to have lots of fun.

By the way, this is only for PCs....

In all I'd give the rating a 7/10, mainly as the idea for the game both is and isn't original.
