Game of the Month - June: Alpha Protocol

The game of the month for June is Alpha Protocol, a game by Sega for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
When I first saw Alpha Protocol I was a little disappointed. At first glance it seemed to me that it was nothing more than Sega attempting to make a remake of Splinter Cell, or any other covert operations game. While these games may be fun, seeing another remake just makes me yawn. After playing the game, you can tell you that my first thoughts about the game weren't far off.
While Sega did try to add their own elements into it, while playing the game it still didn't feel like that good of a game. The gameplay was average, and the storyline for the game was by my standards sub-par.
On the flip side however there were two redeeming qualities two the game. First the graphics and effects to the game were great. If you got shot, by something like a stun gun, your vision would blur a little (kind of like it would in real life) and it helped to add a little more realism to the gameplay. The other part about the game that I did happen to like was how depending on how you speak to people, it changes their attitude towards you. For example if you insult someone they start to dislike you, but if you agree with them, compliment them, or do something similar, they like you a little more. On top of this, depending on how much people like or don't like you would effect how much or how little information you got on a mission, and how much help you would receive.
The array of weapons in Alpha Protocol is decent, but again, I prefer playing the original espionage games like Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell.
If you really want to try out this game, I would suggest renting it as I don't feel it is worth how much it would be to buy it.
In total I give Alpha Protocol a 6.5/10 rating.
Alpha Protocol is available at www.GameFly.com for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC.
Enjoy your gaming!
