I'm Putting My Foot Down...

Well...as I video game enthusiast I have for a long time put up with the bullshit fed to us from the different publishers in the industry, who's only concern is the amount of money in their pockets.  There have been times when I have put up with it; such as online passes and 'free dlc' that are put into games as incentive for you to buy new copies instead of used ones.  However this....this is just stupid, absurd, and for the most part, shameful.

I don't know if anyone keeps up with video game news, but earlier on (today I believe) there was an accidental leak for Mass Effect 3 DLC on the Xbox Live Marketplace.  Now after it was swiftly taken down, Bioware eventually caved in and explained what the DLC entailed (those not wanting to read spoilers, too bad).  Basically the DLC contained a bonus character for you to use in the campaign.  For those of you who know the Mass Effect series, I will tell you that the character for this DLC is a Prothean.  Yes, a god damn PROTHEAN!!!  When I heard this I was ecstatic!  I mean in Mass Effect the Protheans are only hinted at as this super amazing god race that went extinct, and now you get to have a real breathing one on your team!?! AWESOME!

However, it turned out to not be so awesome.  As it turns out, this DLC is only free to those who purchase the Collector's or Digital Deluxe editions of Mass Effect 3.  For anyone who gets a normal copy, they have to pay for the DLC.  Now why exactly am I pissed off about this bullshit?

It is for the simple reason, that if you do not buy the Collector's, or Digital Deluxe editions of Mass Effect 3, you will not be getting the full game.  You may have paid for the full game, but in fact you are paying for part of the game, with other parts of it being dangled in front of your face, and you are only able to touch them if you fork over more money.  Now, what exactly is the difference in price between the normal and Collector's/Digital Deluxe editions of Mass Effect 3?

The normal version is currently being retailed at $59.99, so $60.  If you want to upgrade so that you actually get the complete fucking game, you have to pay, get this, $79.99!!!  Yes, it costs you an extra TWENTY FUCKING DOLLARS in order for the publishers to actually give you the full fucking game you were already spending good damn money on.  I have four words for you. THIS. IS. FUCKING. TERRIBLE.

When you pay $60 for a game you should get the full game.  If you are showing the company that created the game that you enjoy what they are doing, and you give them your hard earned money, you deserve to get the full game.  To get any less, is to show blatant disrespect for the consumer.  To show any less, is to show that you don't even care about the people who want your game, and that all you want them for is their money.  That is not what this industry is about.

This industry is about helping to enrich people's lives through giving them enjoyment through this wonderful medium.  To short change people is to insult the whole industry, to insult all those who support it, and all those who work in it.  And I for one will not stand by while this bullshit happens.

Unless this is to change I have a message for all of you:

I WILL NOT BE PURCHASING A COPY OF MASS EFFECT 3 AND I HOPE THOSE OF YOU WHO FEEL AS I DO WILL DO THE SAME.

I am a gamer, and I will stand up for the industry; especially when I see something that if not stopped could spread and ruin it from within

NOTE: Just to make clear, I am not sure whether or not EA or Bioware are to blame for this atrocity.  However, one of them is very well at fault.
