New Release Pick of the Month: March

First off...you will notice I have changed the name of this from 'Game of the Month' to 'New Release Pick of the Month'.  I have done this to better reflect exactly what these blog posts are; an appraisal of a new game that came out during the past month.  I have felt for a while that 'Game of the Month' was rather unfitting, because how could I say something was my 'Game of the Month' if I gave it a really shitty review?  Rather, these reviews are of games that have come out in the past month that I have played and reviewed for all your convenience.

Second is that now, and probably for the next little while, 99% of the games I do any reviews on will be games available for PC.  This is not to say I will be doing PC exclusives only, but any game that is PS3/Wii/Xbox 360 exclusive will most likely not be getting reviewed by me.  This is simply because with my fancy new computer, I have no need to touch a console as in terms of hardware, the current generation console are just terrible when compared to my PC (this is not an opinion, this is literal fact.  My PC's NEW hardware is better than the 7 year OLD hardware of the current generation consoles.  Any fanboys who want to whine at me, you are wasting your time).  If however, a PC game I review is also available on one of the current generation consoles, I will make mention of it so that those of you who have consoles can enjoy the games as well.

Now with that public service announcement out of the way, I present to you my New Release Pick of the Month for March:

!!!!!WAVEFORM!!!!!

Now Waveform that intrigued me the moment I heard about it, which in fact was a few weeks before its release.  One of the apparent developers of the game had but a post on Reddit's Gaming subforum asking for people who wanted to beta test their end product before it went for release.  I of course jumped at the option to beta test a game that, for the most part is different from any game I have played in a LONG time, but none the less I never heard back.  So upon the games release I immediately snapped up this goodie because my interest in it was still there.  Holy shit is this game awesome.

Basically how the game works is there is a small sphere (or circle I guess, it's not in 3D) that travels along a line, that is basically a sound wave.  You cannot control the speed of the circle, yet you control where it travels by being able to control the vertical and horizontal curves of the sound wave upon which it travels.  The point is to collect these little point balls that are littered throughout the level so that they match up with the sound wave and the ball will traverse over them.  You have to complete levels going from Pluto to the Sun, going over every planet in our solar system.  Also, every planet has about 5-10 levels each, so yeah....that's a lot of levels.

Add all this to the fact that the music in the game is simply amazing, and you have some that is great for me to play in my spare time.  The game is available on Steam for $7, and is definitely worth the time and money you put into it.  Though if you want to give it a try first, there is a demo available.

Both the full game and the demo can be downloaded at:
