Hello everybody, it's been a whole month, and that means it is time for another game review courtesy of yours truly. So this month I've been playing a lot of one game, and holy crap is it amazing. Now I am not one to advocate First-Person Shooters. Unfortunately for the gaming industry, the circle jerk of hate that goes around in online multiplayer games is mostly associated with FPS games. Generally I try to stay away from that genre in order to stay away from said annoying unnecessary hatred. However there was no way I was not going to play Blacklight: Retribution.
Blacklight takes everything I have seen done correctly in a FPS game, and improves on it, not to mention it's free to play! Talk about a bonus! The graphics in the game are great, the physics in the game are great, and what matters most is that the weapons actually feel powerful. When I am in a mech (they have mechs, it's awesome) and I shoot the railgun, I get the visual feedback to make me think I am actually feeling kickback off of firing the thing. Not all shooters get this right, but Blacklight does.
Now as you play matches you earn points which can be used to purchase gear and weapons which you unlock as you gain experience, which is also gained as you play matches. The interesting thing to note is that the different pieces of equipment you can buy aren't upgrades. Rather, they are side-grades. This means that the piece of equipment may not be better than what you currently have, but it's stats are different in such a way to fit your play style better. The same goes for the gun changes you can make, none are specifically better, but they allow for variance in how you can play the game.
The game is a blast to play and I definitely would recommend it to anyone looking for a new and well developed FPS game to play.
